RE: How do you find campgrounds?

I start with freecampgrounds.com then move to rvparkreview.com. After that I go to lovetheoutdoors.com and check for state parks. If these three fail I move on to forestcamping.com then militarycampgrounds.us. These five websights all index by state and the campgrounds are all reviewed by private folks that have no commercial interest in the facilities listed. If I can't find something on these places, I will google the area I am visiting.

RE: The Ultimate "Is this a B?"

I think this guy that is on TV every now and then with his 'weird' home made 'recreational vehicles'. The other one was maybe made from a couple of cars.

RE: Warranty Running Out

On my prior motorhome, a Fleetwood product, the warranty was set to expire before all service issues were completed. The wife wrote a letter to Fleetwood detailing the length of time our motorhome was in for repair of warranted items. Fleetwood extended the warranty to cover time lost for repairs. They also reimbursed us for payments made when the RV was in the shop. Contact with the manufacturer can be a positive experience.

RE: On the road this past weekend

We went to our favorite spot on the Colorado River here in Texas. On the way out last week, and the way home on Sunday, we saw bunches of RVs. There did not seem to be any let up in travel, at least in our general area.

RE: TAKE NOTE!! Jackson/Snake River KOA- Wyoming

This forum is awesome. I learn something new almost every day. I had always thought KOA was just for overnighting. You see one on the side of the highway and duck in for the night. I did not know that people actually went to any KOA as a destination type campground.

RE: No Rant, No Rave, Just FACTS

majestypointers, I never said it was the only way to 'grow up'. I also never said it was how I grew up. I was merely agreeing with another poster about it being one of many options that citizens of this country have to make something out of themselves while making a contribution. A young person can join the service, receive job training and an educational benefit all while being paid to defend our way of life. For the record, I was 'grown up' when I chose to join the military and the tone of your post does sound anti-military.

RE: Blue ox-best prices?

The base plate is $336.18, the tow bar is $559.95, the kit, BX88229 is $139.43, brakebuddy vantage $1298.70. That comes out to $2334.26 for parts. All prices quoted from rvupgradestore.com. Is your time and effort over a weekend to install this stuff yourself worth the $1000.00 to $1500.00 you would be saving. I just paid $625.00 to have a blue ox base plate installed on my new toad. I already had the rest of the stuff. To me it was not worth the time and effort to do it myself.

RE: No Rant, No Rave, Just FACTS

A young person starting out just out of high school... Parents don't have money to send this child to collage for one reason or another so they decide to get a job to pay to for there own education... Well then, how about joining the military, that will teach a young un some responsibility, and what life is all about. If he's/she's smart, they will pay for a college education, give them a good career as well as a retirement after 20 years. JMHO. And who do you think will pay the cost for the Military education.... I respect those that decide to join but if everyone joined the military were would that money come from? I already mentioned that over $100.00 of that young ones money is taken away before they even get it....May be we should take more away from them? As I said no answerers just facts The money would come from the savings in social welfare programs. The government doles out billions of dollars to young Americans that have never done a thing to this country except be born into poverty. Maybe if they served for a couple of years before getting a free education or job training program the next generation would have a little bit more discipline and self control.

RE: Looking for Comments on Chevrolet Colorado for Dinghy.

The Colorado/Canyon is listed as towable with the automatic in the 2008 Motorhome Magazine Dinghy Roundup. It lists no restrictions. A search of the owners manual will give the manufacturers opinion on the subject.

RE: Shifting in and out of Neutral to save gas with Sprinter...

I tell you what, that list of ways to save and increase your mileage was written by a frickin genius. The first thing on the list is to walk. It lists such brilliant ideas as move closer to your destination and buying gas on Wednesdays. The Internet is so full of useless BS that people read and post as gospel. Coasting maybe illegal in some states, but that is to protect the normal people from the short bus people. I coast when it makes sense to me, but would probably not coast down the side of MT Everest. SHORT BUS PEOPLE??? :h It is a reference used were I work for people of diminished capacity.

RE: No Rant, No Rave, Just FACTS

1984, I was making a little over $1200.00 a month, gross, in the Air Force. Gas, for me in South Carolina, was $.67 a gallon. My GMC took a tank of gas, 31 gallons, every week. That was basically $80.00 a month or 6.6% of my gross wages. This was to go back and forth to work and a little running around on the weekends. 2008, I make about $4500.00 a month gross and gas is $4.00 a gallon in Austin, Texas. My Chevy takes a tank of gas every 10 days, about 12 gallons. That is about $144.00 a month. Same back and forth to work and a little running around on the weekends. That is 3.2% of my income. Fuel, as a percentage of my income is 3.4% less expensive now then it was in 1984.

RE: selfish campers

Why should Disney care! They got an extra nights rent from their over priced, over crowded parking lot.

RE: Volunteer positions out west at golf course/campgrounds?

I frequent the parks that have courses on a regular basis. I live near two of them, so play them regularly. Lockhart State Park has a nice little 9 hole course. It is run by the park staff and is in good shape. This little park is a gem in Central Texas. Bastrop State Park is a great park with a horrible golf course. The course is run by a concessionaire and has been run into the ground. However, there are two excellent courses, Colo Vista and Pine Forest, located in the same town. Stephen F. Austin State Park has a 18 hole golf course also run by a concessionaire, last time I was there it was in fair shape. Lots of Texas specific history in this area. The final park with a course is Inks Lake State Park. Again another fine park with a 9 hole course run by a local golf association.

RE: THOUSAND TRAILS MEMBERSHIP OPINIONS?

Current member of Thousand Trails, joined in 2000. There has been traffic on this forum about the increasing cost of staying in campgrounds. I went to the California Parks website and looked at their fee structure. It looks like a campsite is $25.00 a night. If it is a premium site you have to add $10.00. If peak season, add $5.00. It says hookups are $9.00 and a hike and bike fee of $5.00 per person. That all adds up to $74.00 a night. Camp for 2 nights and you have a bill of $148.00. If you go nine times a year, that is possibly $1332.00. As you know the cost of camping adds up quick. Is Thousand Trails equivalent to Fort Wilderness or Jellystone, maybe, maybe not. We have been to every preserve in Texas and one in Tennessee. The are all pretty nice places. They all have activity centers, pools, mini golf, play grounds, etc. They may be well used, but I have not seen an unsafe preserve. I can't speak for California preserves, but the preserves in Texas are all full on major weekends and busy the rest of the time. If it was such a bad deal, I do not think this would not be the case. One more cost example. Fort Wilderness costs $71.00 a night during the regular season and $94.00 a night during the holiday season. Thousand Trails has a preserve less than 10 miles from Disney World that you can stay at for 14 days, and you can do that as often as you want. I have done the math, and Thousand Trails is a good deal.

RE: 1998 Ford V10 Oil & Filter info. needed

Motorcraft filter and semi-synthetic oil from Wal Mart. You can't go wrong using the manufacturers own products.
